Michael Caine says he is 'sort of retired' “I was so happy to do it. I just loved the character of Bernie. I thought he was incredible, and it’s so beautifully written... With Covid-19 and all that, I hadn’t done a picture for three years, and I thought I was finished. And I suddenly did it – and had such a wonderful time. I am bloody 90 now, and I can’t walk properly and all that. I sort of am retired now.”

And I was able to do scenes that needed that. I’d just do them once, and then fall over. But just one take and that’s it. Forget it.”

The upcoming British–French drama starring Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson is based on the true-life story of a British World War II veteran, who 'broke out' of his nursing home to attend the 70th anniversary D-Day commemorations in France, in June 2014. The story is based on that of Bernard Jordan, who was 89 years old when he made his journey to France.

The Dark Knight Rises star Michael Caine, who is suffering from cancer, says he knows his days are numbered. Legendary actor Michael Caine, 84, says he now fears dying of cancer and feels his “days are numbered”.

Caine has cut down on drinking alcohol and banned sugar, salt and gluten from meals, reports Independent. “I know my days are numbered and that’s the main worry,” Caine told The Sun newspaper. “I’ve had to cut back on the drinking and I’m always looking up what’s the best thing against cancer, so I’ll eat that or do this or not do that. “I’ll probably drop dead talking to you but you know I’ve lost 13 kg just because I want to see my grandchildren. They’re twins of six and a boy of seven. I’d like to get to 17 for the boy,” he added. Caine praised his wife Shakira, 70, for helping him get out of the habit of heavy drinking. “Without her, I’d have been dead long ago. I used to drink a bottle of vodka a day and smoke several packs of cigarettes,” he said.
